Cabinet Types: Common Ways of Making Cabinets

Custom, Semi-Custom, and Stock

Custom

Custom-built cabinets are built by a cabinetmaker in a local woodworking shop and are usually the highest priced. Their construction and finish are of higher quality than site-built cabinets.

It's like having a tailor-made suit - the tailor measures you and then goes about cutting and sewing.  A few weeks later, the tailor calls to tell you your suit is finished.

Custom cabinets can be made to suit any space or desire such as a extra long cabinet without interior partitions to accommodate trays or large pans. Custom cabinetry lets you incorporate virtually any door style and color into the kitchen. You might have cabinets made to match existing woodwork or architectural details, or opt for an unfitted look with freestanding or built-in cabinets that mimic furniture.

Custom cabinets were required in this kitchen because the homeowners desired a particular design to fit the room.
